I can confirm empathy is not connecting to any accounts with telepathy-gabble 0.16.1-2, empathy says Status is set to offline but it's not. Will test updates and report back.

I think the lack of connection is actually another bug; Bilal just reported bug 1061824 to track that issue. The crash related in this bug isn't happening here anymore.

seems the issue is apparmor blocking access to
"unable to create file '/run/user/<uid>/dconf/user': Permission denied. dconf will not work properly."

owner /{,var/}run/user/*/dconf/user rw,

to /etc/apparmor.d/usr.lib.telepathy in section

/usr/lib/telepathy/telepathy-*

fixes the problem for me.

Mine seems to be fixed but I had to do the following in order to force the update of the fix because it wouldn't show as in my update manager.

sudo ldconfig
sudo apt-get check
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade --fix-missing
