Bug Description

When I added profile to sync with my ftp, only uploading to server works - when I add some files to synced folder, syncany create some files on ftp, but when I (for example) stop syncany, remove config files and synced folder from hard drive, then reattach ftp sync, none of files are downloaded from ftp. Also, when I connect to the same ftp sync profile twice on the same computer (on different local folders), contents of folders are not synced.

this is a known problem and will be fixed in scope of the new sync algorithm. i'll continue working on this tomorrow.

Is it the same instance of Syncany? If so, that's not possible because you have the same 'computer name'. Only if you connect with two instances of Syncany to the same folder (using different computer names), you can sync among them.

Do you see any scenario where this is desirable? I don't see any.

So what you can do is this:

1) Start the first instance: dist/bin/syncany.sh
2) Stop it.
3) Start the second instance dist/bin/syncany.sh -c ~/.syncany2
4) Edit the computer name property in the Settings dialog to something other than the one from the first instance.
5) Stop it.

6) Now start both instances in different terminals at the same time

Changed in syncany:
milestone: none → 0.1-alpha
assignee: nobody → Philipp C. Heckel (binwiederhier)
importance: Undecided → High

I think your method with two instances is useful when it is not possible to install syncany on servers that needs synchronisation (you can use third computer for that); indeed it is rare case. But I just tried to check why syncing does not work.

I keep my fingers crossed :)

I tried building from source today on a couple different computers, and found a similar problem with Amazon S3. If I placed files in the appropriate folder on one computer, they are uploaded. If I connect the other computer to that repository, they are not downloaded.

From my point of view use case is valid. Not sure if I got it correctly but imagine scenario (that is quite common for me when I use dropbox, I'd consider similar to work for syncany too).
1. install fresh ubuntu distro on PC (let's say PC name is 'xyz')
2. install dropbox/syncany
3. due to new ubuntu release, let's loop and start with step 1 again

Would in such a case my files not be synched back to my PC? if so, I think this would be a show stopper for me with usage of syncany.
