I have the same issue with 9.04 - only sound when my headphones are plugged into their port on my laptop. My kernel is:
2.6.28-11-generic (#42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 01:57:59 UTC 2009)
I am new to linux, but attempted the instructions above and tested the latest kernel, installing:
2.6.30-999-generic
There appeared to be an error at the install stage, which was confirmed when I rebooted. I then get this error message:
[0.004000] allocation of page_cgroup was failed
[0.004000] please try cgroup-disable=memory boot option
[0.004000] kernel panic - not syncing: out of memory
I am now back to my original kernel. Anyone else have problems?
