Sorry for the slightly confusing post.

I tried via:
git clone git://git.xfce.org/apps/postler

then:
./waf configure --prefix=/usr --disable-libindicate (which was needed for me to let it work with python2 I think)
./waf configure
./waf configure --run --disable-libindicate

and that started it. This instance had the version number "Postler 0.1.0-45-g846bf65" (from the info screen).
