Text selected in Evince disappears

Reading the PDF version of the italian Lyx tutorial selecting text makes the latter "covered" by the selector band (like if it is opaque).
Tried with other pdf (like the Samba Howto or the MySQL manual) it doesn't happen.

Thanks for your bug report. Which version of Ubuntu and evince do you use? Can you attach the .pdf file or provide a link to it?

Evince is 0.7.2, running on Feisty with today updates.

Note: the PDF file is generated from the .lyx version using Lyx 1.5.0beta (compiled from source).

In evince 0.8.1 when I select the text, only characters different from the plain one disappear:

I have a pdf generated from OOo, and when selecting with the mouse the letters á, é. í, ó, ú, ñ aren't shown

I've got a PDF file which contains embedded fonts, and I can view this file
perfectly. The file contains Turkish characters such as
öçşığüÖÇŞİĞÜ. But when I try to select some text, these characters
are displayed as squares.

Steps to reproduce:
Create a PDF file which contains one or more of these characters:
"öçşığüÖÇŞİĞÜ", open it and try selecting this text.

This bug still occurs in Gutsy with the specified PDF file, but does not occur with other PDF files I have.

In Gutsy (evince 2.20.0) I have missing text, but also the selection appears to "bleed" into other areas of the page. Random characters in all selected areas disappear.

I noticed this while highlighting from 'left to right' or 'right to left', with the cursor underneath the text.
Also if highlighting while moving the cursor up along the left margin.

Clicking outside the window shows text and stays highlighted. I was unable to capture a screen shot of this because everything that you do out side of the window while the content is invisible causes it to return.

This is an aesthetic bug, not a functionality bug, but it does exist. Almost completely insignificant.

My guess is that it's a problem of evince rather than of poppler. Since epdfview and evince both use glib and poppler, epdfview has no problem at all with text-selection-rendering for non-ascii characters.

Neither of those two bug reports seem to have the slightest relationship to this.

This problem (or a similar, broader one) applies to Maverick Meerkat (10.10). Bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/672244 gives an example PDF file created by pdflatex that shows trouble for all characters, not just "nonstandard" ones.
