The large number of Files windows open could be causing the problem - updating them all will slow the application down and could cause a crash if memory runs out.
One way of creating many windows would be to hold <Ctrl>N down. I tried this and it takes less than a second to create as many windows as in your windows and the whole computer slows down.
I think it is a bug that so many windows can so easily be created. There should be a limit on the total number and rate of production of new windows, I think.
It is not obvious how moving files would result in window production (or are you moving them between two windows and accidentally created too many?)
