Bug Description

In OpenShot 1.4.3 (installed via PPA) under the Kubuntu 12.04 LTS 64-bit version (see Linux and melt version info below) the program freezes when importing one or more JPEG files on Track 1 and then clicking the play button in the Video Preview window to play the photo film.
The freeze happens when the playback of the photo film reaches the end of the last photo in the series. With one photo the time counter shows the freeze happens after 6:029 seconds.
When closing the OpenShot window with the upper right Close button the OpenShot program crashes.

The problem makes it impossible to make photo films with OpenShot 1.4.3.

When importing the JPEG files I choose No as the answer to the question in the pop up window on wether or not to import the picture as an image sequence.

When the OpenShot program freezes, then pressing Ctrl+Esc in KDE shows the System Activity window and on mouse over on the OpenShot program item it shows in the pop up message that the OpenShot process is often in sleep mode, but sometimes in running mode, so this message is not always consistent.

There is no freeze and crash problem when importing one or more movie files (.MOV) and playing them.
One movie followed by one picture on Track 1 also went well, so it seems the freeze and crash only happens when using images only.

Hello Cenwen,

Thanks for finding the default MLT package in Kubuntu 12.04 was too old a
version for OpenShot.

After upgrading the MLT framework to the latest version 0.8.8 and also
installing the ladspa-sdk package to get rid of the error message 'No
LADSPA plugins were found! Check your LADSPA_PATH environment varable.' the
reported repeatable crashes at the end of the playback of one or more
photos are gone and also the freezing of the program is over.

Unfortunately OpenShot now crashes unpredictably. While playing around
placing 3 photos in a series on track 1 and track 2 and playing back the
photo sequences for 10 minutes made OpenShot crash 3 times in different
situations.
The OpenShot project I created was for 1080p@30fps.

Any suggestions as how to assist you in debugging to find the problem are
welcome.

Greetings, Ger

Hi Ger,

Thanks to email me in private even I receive automatically all bugs reports
(and even sometime I lost few :-( ).
It will be interesting for us to know what you have running OS in a
terminal. The best will be to use gdb (although sometimes the output is
mysterious for us.:-( Could you do like in this thread ?
http://openshotusers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=180
If not, it will be nice to have the output of the terminal.
The 0.8.8 version of MLT is certainly the best stable version since a long
time.
Thanks a lot to help us to become OS better.
The next version will introduce Libopenshot and a lot of bugs coming from
MLT will disapear. Be patient, even it will be the next version, she won't
come tomorrow. We have a huge work to do for that but we will begin after
Scale11x. Finally.
