I can confirm this bug exists with the currently available version of OpenOffice.org 3.1 from the Scribblers PPA.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Run OpenOffice.org Calc
2. Goto Format > Print Ranges > Edit
3. Enter a row ($1) in "Rows to repeat" field and/or a column ($A) in "Columns to repeat" field.
4. Press OK.
5. Error box appears. "Invalid sheet reference."
