Do you still have this problem with the new version of OOo in the ppa at https://launchpad.net/~openoffice-pkgs/+archive ?

If you still can reproduce it with the current version can you please give detailed steps of how to reproduce the error? I am not sure where you are setting "row to repeat".

Thanks,

Chris Cheney

Is it so hard to remove the bug from a package that uses sources from Sun that doesn't contain this bug?

mfn (mfn) wrote :

Is it possible to include this workaround https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=502641#c12 in the package?

--- snip ---
The problem is that the syntax check in areasdlg.cxx fails if there is no
formula grammar specified in the user configuration. In that case
lcl_CheckRepeatOne() just returns "false" instead of trying with the default
grammar. As a workaround try the following:

1. Select Tools/Options... from the menu
2. In the left tree navigate to OpenOffice.org Calc/Formula
3. Click on the Arrow right to "Calc A1" to see the list of possible grammars
and select "Calc A1" explicitely from the dropdown list (even if it was already
selected)
4. Press "OK" to save

The fix listed from mfn above worked for me, too, but it also turned off the freeze (Window menu - freeze) I had put on the top three lines of the sheet so they would remain visible during data entry once the sheet got large. Putting the freeze back removed the print range selection of those same three lines that the fix dealt with.

Using the (Window - split) to accomplish the same scroll benefit did not turn off the print range.
The "incompatibility" of freezing the top three rows with selecting them to be printed may be where the source of the problem is, and though the work-around is successful, it isn't, apparently, a fix.

I'm experiencing this on Karmic as well.

I can't add much to Algot Runeman's report, except to say that after restoring the window freeze I found Calc had removed the print range selection as well as the repeated rows selection.

Hi there, thanks You all in advance.

I'm using OpenOffice 3.2 (release 3.2.0 - OOO320m12 - build:9483 - debian 3.2.0.10 - 1:3.2.0-7ubuntu4.1 ) on Lucid Lynx.

The problem described happened to me as well. The "bug fix" it is a peculiar operation: when I accessed the option panel about the "Calc A1" configuration, it really was ALREADY set to "Calc A1". To "fix" the problem I selected it again.

I had the problem since many months ago (I may be wrong, but I remember that this happened on Karmic Koala and Hardy Heron too) and the bug has not been fixed yet. IMHO this should be notified to mainstream developers because OO could suffer a lot on wide areas users: the first time I met the problem I spent too much time to understand what to do and find a solution on the web.

Thanks again.
Ciao

This bug has affected myself it is still in the latest issues of OpenOffice 3.2 under Ubuntu 10.04. Unfortunately (?) it does not occur in the Windows version of OpenOffice 3.2 thereby potentially alienating new users of Ubuntu from Windows. This may not be an issue for Open Office authors but as they are essentially in opposition to Microsoft there perhaps should be some sympathy for it. I used the solution offered by Gary Riddell and it worked for me. Thanks Gary Riddell

In my case it affect 80 users and I get regularly service calls in because of this. I consider this a serious bug as repeated headers are essential.

Phil thanks for Your comment. Unfortunately, the action described at #26 is the "classical" workaround that could be found in many places on the web. However, for Ubuntu/OpenOffice newbies it could be hard to find out that there is a bug. They could think U/OO is not a good solution for them, and they could go back to windows/MSOffice ... A real bug fix is needed, according to my opinion.

Not only is this bug still here in the current version of OOo Calc as of 1/26, but the workaround described in #13 and reiterated in #26 only solved the problem once. I came back to the same file, the next day, and rows do not repeat, and the print range dialog box cannot be directly edited yet again because the "Invalid Sheet Reference" bug-window pops up.

Are we posting in the wrong place? Where do we post so that Ubuntu-staffers actually react, after 2.5 years?

Apparently there is a fix for this. See

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=527535

I cannot, personally, confirm that this fix will be in the next release of Ubuntu (due April 2011), but it is unlikely to be available before then.

I've had it with the lack of response on this and am looking at switching to LibreOffice. I've installed it on a test machine from PPA and it looks really good. Then I tested against this bug. Not only is the bug still present, I could not get the work-around to work!

However, someone in the Debian bug cited above says that the fix was actually backported from libreoffice/1:3.3.0~beta3-1, yet I am using libreoffice-1:3.3.0-1lucid1 from the PPA. Have to keep an eye on this. Maybe some competition will be a good thing.
