Like I pointed out in the initial post, glxgears does _not_ slow down during a suspend/resume cycle -- nor does Compiz, 3D games, or anything else. Only netbook-launcher.
Of course, I'm not against the idea that it could be a driver bug (the driver gives me enough hell already), but from my observations so far, it seems unlikely.
