Hi James! Thanks for filing this bug and helping to make Ubuntu and the music app better! We think your first proposal, to automatically select the created playlist under the "Select playlist" view is a great idea. We can see how it'd clarify or align to a user's perspective.

However, keeping the previous selection, ie not clearing the previous selection when you move to a different view, might need some more thought. Currently the app explicitly clears the multi-select state or any search state when the user leaves the current screen. Your request is reasonable, but selecting an action and hitting the back action doesn't seem like that frequent of a series of events. We assume that the user will follow through with the action they have selected, and if not, the state of the app should be "as normal" without multiselected items being shown. If you feel strongly otherwise, please indicate as such and we'll bring it up with the design team.
