Does this happen with 7z version too?
With nsis version sometimes desktop shortcut gets wrong "start with" folder for a reason yet unknown to me.
If 7z version also crashes please run Midori like midori.exe -g from "DOS" command line using cmd.exe and post output here.
I don't have Windows 8 so it is not tested there but should run just fine.
