Does this happen with 7z version too?
With nsis version sometimes desktop shortcut gets wrong "start with" folder for a reason yet unknown to me.
If 7z version also crashes please run Midori like midori.exe -g from "DOS" command line using cmd.exe and post output here.
I don't have Windows 8 so it is not tested there but should run just fine.

Hey gentlemen~

I'm new to this site, and new to Midori. I've got the same problems on my machine. I'm running Windows 8.1 and Midori keeps crashing upon launch. I've disabled my security software just to make sure that it's not interferring with the set-up. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling but that doesn't fix the problem.

Do you guys have any info as to why this may be happening? Thanks so much! (See screenshot.)

Warmly,
Zacchaeus N.

I also get this bug with the same backtrace as the OP and matching the screenshot from comment #3. The crash happens when midori has reported some progress on loading a website. Since the crash happens inside of libgcrypt-11.dll, I tested that accessing pages that don’t have any HTTPS in them at all (e.g., http://sam.ohnopub.net/) do not cause a crash. And, of course, trying to access any search engine, including the default of duckduckgo, results in trying to access an HTTPS resource resulting in the crash.

I am running Windows 8.1 64bit.

This bug should be taken with a somewhat high priority, since it renders Midori pretty much unusable on Windows 8.1. It's something with libcrypt-11.dll, as #3 found out.

I can't believe this hasn't solved yet, people using Windows 8.1 are having real difficulties to open Midori, I hope someone somehow fix this.

How can this be left unassigned since 2013-11-22?

Well, obviously there isn't any developer which uses windows 8 and
complaining about it doesn't help us solve the problem.

However, there is a nice instruction which explains how to contribute
to midori: http://midori-browser.org/contribute/

I was able to work around this by copying libgcrypt-11.dll from gnupg into the portable midori folder.

I had this problem as well. I did as Joe suggested: installed the latest version of gpg4win (2.2.1), and copied that version of libgcrypt-11.dll over the version that came with midori. It works now.

Hello,

I have a Windows 8.1 8" tablet with rechargeable bluetooth keyboard and stand that I'd be happy to lend to a Midori developer. I'll set myself up to be notified if anyone responds to this thread, so respond if you are a Midori developer (or at least capable of creating a Midori package).

Thanks,

Jason M.

This is problematic to debug since i cannot make it crash on my machine using win7 or win8 test images from modern.ie site.
Unfortunately newer libs we could use (from fedora 20 mingw packages) have some other problem with different crasher on start (that i can trigger reliably).
I dont have much time currently to investigate this stuff. Can somebody post exact versions of win8 (not sure what would be different there from those test images) and maybe what version of libgcrypt gpg4win use? We could just ship updated libgcrypt library in the worst case.

Would a VMWare image work for you? I could put that together in the next week or so.

Win 8 users may wanna try this build

It _should_ work ok, just webinspector is broken at the moment (because of webkitgtk bug on windows). It is larger download because we ship debug info, so if it crashes again plese run it under gdb and report those crashes along with backtraces ;).

It works if you create this file [ ca-bundle.crt ] on [ etc/pki/tls/certs/ ]. It worked with empty file.

bat (jbcooper) wrote :

Many thanks to Anderson - this fixed worked for me!! I think you can even delete the ca-bundle.crt file and folder (etc/pki/tls/certs/) once you have got midori to run once - it runs fine thereafter.

Well, it worked on XP, but now I can't get it to work on Windows 8. Any clues much appreciated.
