Bug Description

When i start the application it doesn't start, and if i start it from a terminal it says to me Me-tv version and nothing else will happen.

This happen in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS alpha2, Me TV installed from Ubuntu Software Center and corrected and initial error that i can't remember , it needs a GTK theme , installing "gtk2-engines-pixbuf" i've resolved the first problem but not the fact that the program seems to be unresponsive.

I have not tried it under 12.04 yet. i understand that you have installed
it from software center so, I suppose it is the version 1.3.6. If you're ok
with compiling stuff, can you try the version 1.4.0 from the launchpad
repository ?

I'm in the process of creating a PPA for the branch 1.4 so it will be
easier to keep up-to-date.

Cheers,
Fred

Hi Daniele,

Now latest me-tv version can be downloaded from official Me-TV development repository:

https://launchpad.net/~me-tv-development/+archive/ppa

Simply add ppa:me-tv-development/ppa to your system's Software Sources, update package info and you can install latest version :)

I have the same problem.

The server seems to work well, but however the client doesn't find it so it asks to start it.

When clicking yes, it says "Exception: Failed to communicate with Me TV server" and terminates.

Same problem when not running the server before.

Hi,

For the "gtk-WARNING... pixmap..." you have to install the package
gtk2-engines-pixbuf (something like that)

For the connection between the client and server you can try starting the
server with the command "me-tv-server --broadcast-address=10.2.255.255"
(change the broadcast address to suit your configuration)

Then start the client with this command "me-tv-client
--server-host=ip.of.the.srv".

If this is not working, you can add "-v > me-tv.log" at the end of the
command to log what is happening.

Cheers,
Frederic

I've made some minor change in rev 1.4.0.8 (the daily build should pickup
the change) regarding this issue. I would like to know if you still have
this bug with this version.

Before trying it, make sure you don't have me-tv (client/server) running
(ps -A | grep me-tv)
Then, delete the folder ~/.local/share/me-tv and everything in it (you can
also move it somewhere else)

To help me a little, If possible, the first time you start me-tv, do it
with this command: "me-tv-client -v > me-tv.log" (without quote)

If you still have this bug, send me these two files: me-tv.log (that you've
created with the command bellow) and ~/.local/share/me-tv/me-tv.db
if you don't have this bug anymore, I also would like to know.

I'am not able to reproduce this behaviour at home, so I'm working blind...

When you compile it yourself, you also have to do the "sudo make install" to make "me-tv-server" available in the path. When you just "make", the application is build ok but the "me-tv-client" don't have access to the bin "me-tv-server".

To remove it after a "sudo make install", you can do "sudo make uninstall" but you need the original folder from where you have compile it.

The last 4 lines are the most important for the communication between the

server is using the network, do you have any firewall or something else
blocking the communication ?

I will make a fresh install on an other computer to check that out. Maybe
I've made a change to my computer making it work but don't remember it.

Thanks a lot for your time,
Frederic

If it's at all relevant, I have also been having problems with the gnome-dvb-* apps: they forget my device group every time i reboot. I don't know whether they might be stuffing up me-tv (whether gnome-dvb-daemon is or isn't running does not seem to change me-tv's output above).

Today, I've tried with different version of Ubuntu and this bug is only in
12.04 (11.10 and before are ok). I also found a workaround but I think that
yours is better looking then mine.

Can you explain it a little ? Did you found some doc on this somewhere ?

Tonight I'll try to put something in place to fix this for once and for all.

Thanks,
Frederic

every stack i got when interrupting a hanging me-tv, no matter what version, came across creating a lock in Data::Statement::Statement. so i played around avoiding that lock at all.
the chosen variant was just a suggestion by the compiler to resolve an abiguity when i messed up the code ;).

Ok, I've updated the PPA with a fix for this bug (I hope). So since
1.4.0-0~29~Precise1, it should be fix.

Can someone confirm ? (not everyone please)

Thanks,
Frederic

Sometime you have to install VLC (You can do it with software manager). I
think that just libvlc is not enough. I'll have to check that too.
