This issue persists in Linux Mint 14.1 Cinnamon. It seems the problem occurs only after loong suspends, just like AdanOva (gatocaradepez) reported above at the beginning of this page. I haven't measured specific times but if I suspend for like 15 min everything is fine.

The issue occurs when I try to resume my PC in the morning after it was resumed from the previous day (suspended throughout the night). After night-long suspends the active parts of the machine seem to awaken normally (I can hear fans...not sure about HDDs) but the monitor, mouse, and keyboard are dead (no light in the mouse, keyboard lights don't work - caps lock etc, monitor reports "no signal"). When I said "not sure about HDDs" I meant "I am not sure whether they get power-on or not". They certainly aren't used. Seems like total system freeze.

I use proprietary amd graphics driver, specifically, the the last, 3rd, option (fglrx-updates) on the Additional Drivers page of Software Sources. I also have the "flickering screen" issue (flickering instead of smooth transition to blackness) while the system goes to screensaver mode (the black screen with text in corners). Not sure if it's related, but just in case. :)
