I've got the same problem. Even if the Wifi works fine, the LED still doesn't work.
Ubuntu 8.04, 2.6.24-15-generic 32Bits
Dell 1720 with Intel 4965 ABGN
It doesnt work since 7.04 for me... Hope it will be corrected ...
