I have included the below in the bug description, in the hope that we don't keep getting people confirming the problem:
FIX
This problem is fixed for Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy) in the backported kernel modules. (Note, however, that it does not behave the same way as it used to. The light will not blink on and off, but will be steady.) To install these kernel modules, install the package "linux-
