As of now only prime-select nvidia allows me to normally boot. But in my case it's not lightdm, but sddm. Also worth noting is on the previous version of Kubuntu (17.04) I was using kernel 4.10.0-21 and I was able to normally boot and work on intel graphics. For some reason it's not the case anymore - booting with that kernel results in the same freeze.
