inkscape will not save my work at all

Bug Description

When i try to save my work with the "save as" option in the file dropdown menu, nothing at all happens, no window appears
asking me for a filename and location.

If i try save on its own again nothing.

It will however let me "export bitmap" but this is vertually useless to me.

If i cannot save my work then inskape is of no use to me, which is a pity because the application is very good
and better than my other graphics app, but if i can't get this fixed then i'll have to revert to it.

If you can help me that would be great.

My system is windows xp, home edition, packard bell, intell celeron D.

I dont know which version of inkskape i have got but i only downloaded it about a month ago, if that helps.

Very likely yet another duplicate of
Bug #805095 "no File->Save As... dialog box if previously opened a file from root directory of a drive"

Workarounds:
a) reset the preferences file and don't open or save files from/to the root of a drive)
b) open a file _not_ in the root of a drive via context menu of the explorer in Inkscape ('Open with Inkscape…') and save it again after a small edit, save it as (with a new file name), and save a copy as, to reset the paths stored in the preferences file for the various save operations which trigger the known regression in Inskcape 0.48.2 on Windows.

Please check the version information in Inkscape menu 'Help > About Inkscape': only Inkscape 0.48.2 is affected by this bug. You could try the recent release of Inkscape 0.48.3.1, available at:
<http://sourceforge.net/projects/inkscape/files/inkscape/0.48.3.1/>

(hasn't been officially announced on inkscape.org yet)

Marking duplicate of Bug #805095 "no File->Save As... dialog box if previously opened a file from root directory of a drive".
Don't hesitate to comment if you're still affected with Inkscape 0.48.3.1 or if you think it's a different issue.

Thank you all for your comments on this problem, i have now however replaced incskape with another version.
Inkscape 0.48.3.1 r9886.
This version does not seem to have the afore mentioned bug in it.
