Making the Text and Font settings a section in the side dock, similar to 'Align and Distribute' or 'Fill and Stroke' would improve usability and accessibility. This would allow a user to set a font/size/style/spacing etc... before creating text objects, and let you see the settings at-a-glance without having to bring up the modeless (always on top) dialog that currently exists. It's true that the dialog can be kept up persistently, but it's much wider than the dock and doesn't move correctly when I resize my window. It also feels disjoint from the rest of the program.
