@Daniele - yes, you found the right place ;-)! Do you see the small inkscape icon in
- the left upper corner of the main inkscape window
- menu 'Help' right before 'About Inkscape'?
Do you get any console messages (warnings, errors) that could help to find the reason for this bug? Maybe you can attach a small screenshot to illustrate it?
Your report might point to the some underlying issue as bug #388063, both on ubuntu, possibly the same window/desktop manager (gnome?) which can't render the (svg-?) inkscape icon.
@Alvin - maybe this is somehow connected to the missing about-icon (bug #371724)? All these bug reports only happen with rather recent dev or prerelease builds... I am speculating here - (rather than really understanding) - it could be a GTK+ issue (or rather gdk-pixbuf.loaders where - at least on osx - the SVG loader module is missing in those builds that fail to render the inkscape about-icon).
