I am able to add a node with double-click in your sample drawing (Inkscape 0.46+devel r22540) but I agree with you that within the node tool the shortcuts for 'Add node' and 'Guideline properties' are ambiguous and should be untangled to
- either always override the guide properties shortcut while editing a path (you still could double-click the guide outside of the bbox of the currently selected path)
- or use a different method/shortcut for the guide properties dialog.
