1) If you happen to run Inkscape on a Windows PC, or on a Mac: do you work with a multi-screen setup (e.g. laptop + external monitor)?

2) Please check whether the document properties dialog was (unintentionally) iconified (minimized into the dock inside of Inkscape's main window, represented by a (vertical) icon button near the right edge of the Inkscape window). If this is the case, click on the button to open the dialog again.
