In that case, it probably *is* a jpg. To do a final verification, please do this in your browser:

- right-click on the image
- select 'show graphic info' in the context menu
- Does it still say it's a jpg? Then it *is* a jpg.

What I think is that the Shopify person's comment was maybe referring to another picture size, not to this thumbnail size.

When they resize, they will probably use the jpg format, which, because of the mentioned transparency bug in Inkscape (https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1430716), converts to a black background instead of white.
