Which list do you refer to? In current stable 0.48.4 there is only a dropdown list with font families (not styles) on the controls bar of the text tool. The only styles accessible via text tool controls bar are 'Bold' and 'Italic'.
Maybe this is indeed a Windows-specific issue with current stable 0.48.4 (on OS X, with current stable 0.48.4 (and with trunk), there is only one entry for 'Source Sans Pro' in the font family dropdown list on the controls bar of the text tool). I'll refrain from further triage since I don't have access to Windows, and can't fully comprehend the reporter's descriptions.
@JazzyNico - could you take a look at the described issue on Windows?
