In Japanese, three dot leader is used as three middle dots in many situation, and many Japanese fonts use middle dots. (e.g. fonts-takao, vl-gothic, fonts-vlgothic, fonts-mikachan, fonts-yozvox-yozfont ...)
It's difficult to change design of fonts.

And I think three dot leader is unique on this situation. Almost applications use three periods in menus.
