In both cases hp-setup says plugin regularly installed !!

Hardware: PowerMac G4 PPC
Operative System: Ubuntu 10.04

This is the output of hp-check:

HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper dependencies
are installed to successfully compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro
supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball
has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode

Hi,

Please install the latest "hplip-3.11.5 ". You can download the hplip-3.11.5.run file from http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/gethplip.html. Install it by running command "sh hplip-3.11.5.run".

Delete all print queues created in system-config-printer.
Setup the device by running command "hp-setup".

Let us know if you are facing the same problem on the latest.

Thanks & Regards,
Goutam Kodu

Dear Goutam,

first of all thank you very much for your attention!

I followed your instructions but the problem is still present !!

I proceeded like this :

1) removed any (one) print queue in system-config-printer

2) removed via synaptic hplip 3.10.2, hplip gui and dependences

3) downloaded HPLIP-3.11.5.run

4) installed from terminal (sh hplip-3.11.5.run)

5) restarted computer

6) from terminal "hp-setup"

7) tried intalling plugin both from server and local and in both cases i got the message "plugin installed"

RESULT : in any case printer working perfectly but when I try scanning, I get "scan job failed - plugin not found"

If you have any idea please let me know (sorry I'm a dummy with Linux) and thanks again for your very kind attention

Hi,

Will try to reproduce this bug in our lab and update you on the same.

Can you check if you are able to open the scanner using xsane application .

Thanks & Regards,
Goutam Kodu

Revision history for this message
Carlo Moretto (carlo-moretto) wrote :

Hi Goutam,

Ok XSANE (release 0.996) when launched first says "Looking for devices".

Then it gives the following message:
"Error: Not possible opening device 'hpaio:/usb/HP_ Color_Laserjet_CM1312_MFP?Serial=00CNB886DH4P' I/O error on device". (I translated from italian so it's not the precise english error message, but the sense is clear).

Therefore, no way to scan or see the device !!

====

I tried to remove comments from the last two lines of /etc/sane/hp.conf
so that it appeared :

scsi HP
# Uncomment the following if you have "Error during device I/O" on SCSI
# option dumb-read
#
# The usual place for a SCSI-scanner on Linux
/dev/scanner
#
# USB-scanners supported by the hp-backend
# HP ScanJet 4100C
usb 0x03f0 0x0101
# HP ScanJet 5200C
usb 0x03f0 0x0401
# HP ScanJet 62X0C
usb 0x03f0 0x0201
# HP ScanJet 63X0C
usb 0x03f0 0x0601
#
# Uncomment the following if your scanner is connected by USB,
# but you are not using libusb
/dev/usb/scanner0
  option connect-device

BUT NOTHING CHANGED !

Actually I've libusb installed but I tried anyway...

(I RESTORED THE COMMENTS, so the file is like I found it !!)

About libusb there is one strange thing (to me at least, as I told you i'm a dummy with linux!) but i refer you if it is of any importance: if I check installed packages via Synaptic i find both libusb-0.1-4 (2:0.1.1214ubuntu0.2) AND libusb-1.0-0 (2:1.0.6-1) !!

I'm wondering if this can cause any conflict...? I beg your pardon if the question is stupid and useless. If it is so , ignore it.

Thank you again

Carlo
