today I tried the installation again, this time with USB-connection and - no surprise - it also did not work.
I got the same error message when clicking the "Add Printer"-button as earlier before:
UnicodeDecodeError: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xc3 in position 757: ordinal not in range(128)
After thinking for a while, a had an idea:
My last name contains the German character "ü" which is also called "u umlaut", maybe you know it.
Right in after buying the printer, even before connecting it to a computer, I set up the fax properties right on the printer's display and sent faxes afterwards. In the fax setup I entered my name in the - correct - German spelling, with the u umlaut.
Now I thought, that this might be a problem in connection with 'ascii' codec and I changed the spelling from Hüther to Huether.
Then I reran hp-setup and - big surprise - the error was gone and the printer was installed.
Maybe you can improve the installation routine in this respect, e.g. show a warning message not to use special characters in the fax setup of the printer.
If you need further information, please do not hesitate to contact me.
