I did end up getting it to connect to this printer, via a shared printer setup on a ubuntu server I have at work. I think my problem may have been caused by one of the following:
1) I had Kerberos authentication turned on in CUPS and couldn't get it turned off because I didn't have a good kerberos environment. I eventually found it in in the cups configuration file and changed it.
2) I have hp printers both at home and at work and my laptop goes back and forth. Therefore, there is always one hp printer that it can't see.

I will attach the results of those commands anyway. I appreciate your help. I'll post these results once I get to work.
