An observation: The printer froze again - now I did the following:
I unplugged the power cord and plugged it in again, but left the printer connected to the computer via usb.
The printer tried to boot up, but hung after about 3 seconds. Unplugging, plugging in again (but leaving it connected), - same story. It repeated about five times, then it booted up succesfully and started printing.
The second time the printer froze again, I gave up after about 7 times unplugging and replugging, disconnected the printer from the computer and then replugged the printer. Then it worked.
So some information from the computer to the printer seems to hang it.
