I have similar problem: I have a HP Laserjet 2300d (connected with an USB port) that worked nicely with Karmic Kubuntu (64-bit). After the upgrade to Lucid, it stopped working. I've tried but I cannot get it to work again. The computer sees the printer:

$ lsusb

(...)
Bus 007 Device 002: ID 03f0:0b17 Hewlett-Packard LaserJet 2300d
(...)

But it fails to communicate with it somehow:

When I try to set it up, hplip crashes:

Any help would be welcome.
