I don't know if it's related, since that bug report is from 2013.

What is very possible, though, is that some change nvidia did in their latest version caused something to break.

Unfortunately, there isn't much we can do about their drivers :( You'll have to find a place and report the issue with them or Canonical, or whoever ships that driver.
