The proposed implementation (#1), indicates that the new archived flag would prevent items from displaying in the catalog. I assume that if an item is part of the library's collection, it should continue to dsplay in the catalog--but not be associated with any course(s)?

I think that when a course is unarchived, the user should be alerted if any items associated with the course are lost, missing or have been deleted. Staff can then determine whether these items should be replaced with other copies or removed from the course.
