Issue confirmed on a fresh install of 14.04 AMD64. Tried importing 5 different profiles.
Importing the same 5 profiles works fine on Ubuntu 13.10 AMD64.
Launching openvpn from command line works fine on ubuntu 14.04 AMD64.
