Bug Description

Something is out of sync with clipit. When I select a previous copy-to-clipboard text I've copied, instead of putting "that one I've selected" into memory, it is putting another item (elsewhere in my clip-history) into the current clip-board memory.

Basically, the one you select is not the one you get for pasting.

Pay careful attention, in the attached video, at the part where I click "Text3" from clipit's drop-down; instead of "Text3" I get "Text6" when I paste it.

I'm running:
Package: clipit 1.4.1-1ubuntu1

That's the latest available in the repository, and the latest I see here:
http://clipit.rspwn.com/

Your change log mentions later versions, but I didn't see a download link on the site. Please provide further instructions.

There's not much time left, if you want to get your latest version into the repositories for the upcoming Ubuntu 12.04 release:
http://www.ubuntu.com/community/countdown

Clipit is important to me because it replaces Parcellite, which doesn't work in Unity:

The latest version is available here https://github.com/shantzu/ClipIt/downloads or here http://sourceforge.net/projects/gtkclipit/files/Version%201/ but you need to compile it yourself, because it's not yet available as a deb package. The 1.4.2 version won't make it to 12.04 anymore, since the freeze is already in place.

This remains an issue in Ubuntu 12.10.

I'm not sure how to reproduce it, but I use clipit daily and it's list becomes out of sync frequently (you'll select one item and it will put a different item from the list into the current memory for pasting).

I using clipit 1.4.1-1ubuntu2. If the bug is fixed in 1.4.2 why not release it as an official update?

Since this issue is still not fixed, and since Parcellite has release an update (1.0.2rc5) for Ubuntu 12.10, my workaround is to use parcellite instead of clipit:

sudo apt-get install parcellite

Debian is still frozen, so I can't upload it to unstable there. And since ubuntu takes its packages from Debian's unstable repository, it can't get the new version. So no.

Jackson, thanks for your efforts! I'm really eager to see this bug resolved in Ubuntu.

It is a shame that a fix is available and we're having this much difficultly getting an update into the repositories.

What still needs to happen:
1. A debian developer needs to sponsor my version of clipit and put it
in "unstable"
2. Ubuntu will sync this for 14.04
3. If required, file a bug to backport this to saucy, precise, etc.

Jackson, thanks so much for getting this moving again. Do you have a standalone .deb that I could use to install this early. Or, could you elaborate on the steps to use your ppa?

Also, do you think that this could make it into Ubuntu 13.10?

I'm still experiencing this in saucy at the moment. Do you know of a way that I can update just this one package from trusty-proposed without being prompted to also update all other packages that are in trusty-proposed?

Wait a second, you said trusty-proposed (14.04). I was just looking for this in saucy-proposed which is the current Ubuntu 13.10.

Since 14.04 won't be release until April of next yet, is there any chance of getting your fix into saucy too?

Ok, I've installed the 64-bit deb, and it does appear to be fixed so far. However, keep in mind, even before this fix I couldn't always reproduce this issue every session.

I use this application daily, so I will report back if the bug resurfaces.

This was an important bug fix to me, so thank you so much for fixing this for everyone.
