Bug Description

When I'm running on battery, the following happens after about 20 seconds or so of no user activity:

- First, the screen gets *brighter*--nearly 100% brightness.

- Second, the keyboard brightness keys are inverted: the brightness up key decreases brightness and vice versa. However, brightness only varies over a narrow range which is entirely brighter than the normal brightness for running on battery.

- Moving the mouse or hitting a "normal" key restores brightness to the expected levels for battery mode and restores the brightness keys to normal operation. After about 20 seconds of no user input, the bug pops up again.

- When I'm running on AC power, there's no change in screen brightness on inactivity. However, after inactivity, the brightness keys are still inverted. This mode is so subtle that for a long time I never noticed it and thought that this bug only occurred on battery.

I'm running Oneiric with kernel 3.0.0-15-generic. I first noticed this bug upon upgrading to Oneiric, but another bug kept me running a Natty kernel (2.6.38-10) until recently. Natty kernels didn't exhibit this bug, so it's a regression. Unfortunately, I'm not running Precise, so I can't test it.

Scott Severance, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux <replace-with-bug-number>
