Bug Description

I'm running Gnome Shell with a stacked multi-monitor configuration. My (1366x768) laptop display is located under a larger (2048x1152) external display. I've set the external (top) monitor as the "primary" monitor that holds the dock and the menu bar.

In this configuration, the wallpaper is misaligned with the screen border. The wallpaper on the top screen is shifted down around 20-some pixels and shows up on the bottom screen.

I've attached a screenshot showing the issue, with a big red arrow to direct your attention the issue. (It's more subtle on the screenshot than it is on a live system.)

This issue doesn't seem to cause any functional problems.

I'm seeing this with a left/config running the precise, ATI and open drivers.

Fine on boot if just using my laptop without a monitor and fine for the first time since reboot that I add a monitor. After a remove the monitor I have this miss-alignment and every-time I attach a monitor/TV thereafter.

Does not break anything, just annoying to look at.

Apologies for the double post. Just fixing my typo:

I have a left/right monitor config

Not sure if this is related, if someone could let me know if need to open another bug.

After using a second screen, I have one persistent (extra, over and above the normal behaviour) desktop that will not "close" or cannot be removed.

I.e. so if I was only using one desktop, there would be the default additional "spare", but also this additional desktop that is only present after using a dual screen set-up and returning to single default screen (laptop).

Same behaviour with 3.9.92-0ubuntu1

Attached a couple screenshots.

I re-created the bug by doing a reboot with additional monitor connected.
Displays work as expected
Remove monitor
Run "displays"
Bingo (see first screenshot)
Adding back second display highlights issue in second screenshot (to follow).

OK thanks Jeremy. I'll keep track of that bug and see if the mutter update fixes this issue too.

Quick update on this.

Still present with 3.4.1-0ubuntu1

However I followed a tip from the bug report linked in #10 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/964796/comments/4)

Switching OFF "Have file manager handle desktop" fixes the issue.

So seems to be related to this feature, "Have file manager handle desktop".
