Bug Description

System: Ubuntu 11.04, all latest patches as of 2011/10/09, single core Pentium 4.
After a patch a week or two ago, one of my printers (Samsung 2510) no longer seem to process print jobs. When initiating a simple print job such as print test page, the printer status invariably goes to Processing - SpliX Cannot get input slot information. The jobs got queued up but stayed stuck in Processing state indefinitely.
Seems like similar problems were reported else where (https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/24699)
This problem just cropped up in the last week or two, I have another printer (Epson 810) connected to the same host which works just fine.

Does the command

sudo ln -s /usr/lib/cups/filter/gstoraster /usr/lib/cups/filter/pstoraster

entered in a terminal window solve your problem (see http://www.fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?p=1485349)?

Can you try an Oneiric live CD? Does the problem still persist on that system?

Also note that 'SpliX Cannot get input slot information' is only a warning in reality. The filter carries on running, simply setting InputSlot to the internal default "Auto". So this should not prevent the jobs from printing.

I cannot reproduce the bug on Oneiric. There the SpliX driver seems to work normally.

summary: - Samsung printer ML 2510 no longer accessible due to 'SpliX Cannot get
- input slot information'

The error was probably a red herring that detracted from the real problem. Upgraded to Oneiric and then discovered that the USB cable connected from the PC to the printer was loose, once the cable was properly seated the printer sprang to life.
