Bug Description

On shutting down CD Live on Feisty Fawn daily builds 20070210 and 11, after a while nothing seems to be happening. I squint at the tiny dark blue print on the screen and it says something like removing the CD and press ENTER to continue. The CD is not ejected automatically, and won't eject when I push the button on the CD drive. So I push ENTER anyway and the machine shuts down with the CD still inside.

When shutting down Feisty Fawn 20070207 I notice the CD drawer come out (even though I can hardly read the screen), I can remove the CD and then push ENTER O.K.

Looks to me like some code broke between 20070207 and 20070210.

MD5 sums check out on all three builds.

Because /etc/init.d/casper is trying to eject /live_media rather than /cdrom...

I changed /etc/init.d/casper near the bottom, /live_media, to /cdrom and it did in fact eject the cd.

Of course this is CD Live so I'd have to make the change on every boot. Seems to me, way back when, Edgy had a similar problem.

I'll check later daily-live/current distros to see if casper gets changed. Cheers, Jerry

Verified no eject on two computers on herd 5 as well.

Do note, this is PCLinuxOS which has very legible print when booting and shutting down. Feisty is nearly impossible to read.
I've also tried Puppy Linux and Simply Mepis, both of which are quite readable booting/shutting down.

What's the problem that Feisty can't match the competition? They're all open code so there shouldn't be a problem seeing how to do it.

Just hoping Ubuntu gets better for more people - Dapper was the last legible release.

  * Depends on eject package, and copy it into initramfs.
  * Add log_wait_msg function to use usplash_write INPUTENTER.
  * Conflict with usplash older than the one that fixes INPUTENTER.
  * Add driver-updates hooks.

  * Fix more leftover /live_media wreckage (LP: #84592).
  * Add a ubiquity hook to install driver-updates on the target system.

At least on my configurations, Ubuntu, X, & K 20070322 do eject now.

If I'm running "safe graphics mode" on IBM NetVista, OEM Intel 845G video, to get 1280x1024 the LCD screen goes black on shutdown and the clue Ubuntu is still running is the CD drawer ejects. I then assume it's asking for Enter, screen is still totally black, I push enter, and the system does shut down.

So I think the problem as originally reported, no eject, is fixed, for whoever decides to amend the heading.

By the way, Shutdown on two bare bones systems does not power off while Dapper did. All U, K, X buntu's power off the three IBM NetVista, ThinkCentre, and Thinkpad systems. This is another anklebiter bug advantage Dapper.
