Hi Nelson,

Do you still have this issue?

If so, can you describe it in a bit more detail so I can try to reproduce it? Do you click left many times in the note, on the tray, or where? How many times (or how long) do I have to click?

If not, did you solve to fix the issue?

Regards,
Arthur Borsboom.

Hi Arthur,

I only use Xpad at the office, at home I only use Tomboy, and have not been at office in months. But I can recall that the crash usually was caused because I clicked on the tray icon so many times, and I think it was a left click, because that's the mouse key used in Tomboy to display the menu, and usually I forget that when I use Xpad (which used the right key to display the main menu).

Sorry for lack of detailed information on the ticket.

Hi Nelson,

I have clicked many many times with the left mouse button on the tray icon. I tried with the right one too, however I cannot replicate it. I am using version 4.2, which is the current version in development; so that might make the difference. If that would make the difference, then soon your problem will be resolved by the upcoming version of Xpad.

Still, I think this issue is worth more investigation, because the repetitive actions leading to a crash, might indicate a memory leak.

Therefore, I would like to have some more information, such as the Xpad version you are using and preferably the closest way to reproducing the crash.

When do you think you will visit your office again?

If it is soon, I'll try to fix the issue for the release of 4.2.
If it is not soon, I will move the bug to be part of a next release such as 4.3 or 4.4.

Ps. a nice upcoming feature of version 4.2 (for the Tomboy enthousiasts), is that you can configure the behaviour of the left-mouse click on the tray. This might indirectly prevent your crash too. :)

Now I think to remember something else about the issue: it was not a repeatedly mouse left clicking on the tray icon, it was a mouse right clicking too, and selecting "show all"... and I have a huge amount of notes in Xpad, so I had to close them all by right clicking and select "close all". At some point I was doing the same thing over and over again (I was really tired because a lack of sleeping). So i was quick sequence of right click > "show all", right click > "close all". Try that to see what happens.

I won't get back to the office in the meantime (maybe in two weeks, but it's not sure), so I guess it's OK to move the bug to the 4.3/4.4 release, 'cause it's not a very common bug (I don't even know if someone else has had it before).

A really nice feature could be sharing notes with other devices like smart phones. Tomboy already have it, but is not stable yet (or, like my case, even available).

Hi Nelson,

I still can't replicate the crash on my system (Lubuntu x64) with
v4.2. I have tried two test cases.

1)
- created 15 pads
- repeat 30 times: click left on tray icon (= show all) followed by
click right on tray icon -> close all

2)
- created 15 pads
- repeat 30 times: click right on tray icon (= show all) followed by
click right on tray icon -> close all

If you agree let's do the following. Let's put this bugreport on hold until:
- you have more information from the office
- you have installed version 4.2 (which will be released in approx. 1 month)

In the mean time, I will set the release status of a potential fix for
version 4.3.
Do you agree with this solution?

For your suggestion of new features, I have created a blueprint, which
can be used to discuss, and brainstorm, followed by a design more and
more in detail. If you feel like it, please add your ideas to this
blueprint. It can be found here.

Does this solve your synchronization wish?

Hi Arthur,

Totally agree with your proposal. As I said before, it's not a very common or recurrent issue. I'll try to replicate the scenario that cause the failing once I get back to the office.

I like the idea of the suggestion blueprint. Give me some days for make a proper wish list based on Tomboy features.

The ideas proposed on xpad sync sounds perfect, at least for me, because I have an Android smart phone (Sony Xperia S) and ES File Explorer is in fact my prefer Android file explorer application. Thought the concept needs more development, for example, an Android Xpad app or establish communication with another Android notepad app (which is something easy in theory, but hard in practice).
