Bug Description

Mahara v1.4.0
Linux 2.6.26
PHP 5.2.6
Apache-Server 2.2.9
Postgresql-Server 8.4

Hello,

I was trying to request at first and later to remove a friend as a normal user. The result was:
- that the request/add and the removal of a friend was successful but
- a white screen was shown in the browser & a error-output was caused in the log-files (see the attachment).

As the admin of mahra-installation the request and remove of a friend works fine & without any errors.

Thank for any help!
michael

Hi Michael,

I have tried reproducing this on Mahara version 1.4.1testing (2011061003) with Chromium 12.0.742.91 (87961) Ubuntu 11.04

I could not reproduce your error.

Could you let us know what browser and operating system you were using when you found this bug. Maybe a screenshot of just before the whitescreen and just after would also be good.

Cheers,

Hugh

With the stack trace given, it seem that there was a MaharaException generated from
htdocs/lib/activity.php:462
call_static_method($notificationclass, 'notify_user', $user, $userdata);
This in turn calls activity_occurred again on line 476 (resulting in an endless loop, yay!)
This second call is sent to the admin
This line of code is only called if $user->method != 'internal'

Possible causes are bad email?

Michael,

Would you be able to let us know whether the users are getting an email sent to them?
Also, is the normal user requesting friendship of the admin user, or another normal user.
Would you be able to look at the email addresses in question and let us know if they are correct, and whether you can manually send an email to those addresses
Also, is the email system in mahara working in other areas, for example you can try creating a forum and replying to a post created by a user, they should receive a user.

Cheers,

Hugh

Given bug #795589, it's likely to be a problem sending emails.

However, if we have an endless loop, it's definitely a bug that we should fix.

Hello François, Hello Hugh,

it is right, probably belongs the error to the bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/795589. The email system in my
mahara-installation is not working right now. For example I can create a
forum-post and replying to a post created by a normal user. I and they can
receive the messages but these messages are not sent away by email.

I could reproduce the error with a firefox browser (4.0.1) under Windows
XP and Firefox (3.0.6) and Epiphany under linux (debian lenny). I have
requested und removed a "friend" (the admin and a normal user) as a normal
user and could reproduce the error as well.

The email addresses of all users are correct and I'm able to send manually
an email to those addresses.

Thank you for help,
michael

Hi Michael,

Do you still have the issue in the latest stable (1.5) or master?

Hello Kristina,

no the error no longer occurs, neither in the latest stable version 1.5.1 and not in 1.4.0.

Thank you,
Michael
