Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

I've just upgraded to ubuntu 11.04
in the previous version I've installed a color filter that made my standard window background color transparent, together with the blur plugin this gave my windows a nice glassy effect.
The color filter still works, however it acts strange. When I first activate the screen filtering everything is OK, then when I open another window it is not filtered. So if I press the shortcut key to activate screen filtering again, the new window becomes filtered, but the old ones are no longer filtered. And what makes the situation even worse is that after pressing the shortcut key several times, some of the windows (like geany or pidgin chat window) stops being refreshed. They still do their work only the changes on them are not drawn on the screen.
I have two monitors which I use as multiple X screens because I don't like Xinerama. I don't know if that makes a difference. Another change in compiz is that it doesn't start automatically for both screens, but if I start compiz only on one screen the color filter issue still exists.

My aplologies for the double post but I forgot to mention two things in my original post:
1) I've tried activating the "Copy to texture" plugin but it made no difference
2) I'm running compiz with emerald on ubuntu classic because at first start a window poped up saying that I don't have a good enough videocard to run unity, which is strange because I have a Raden HD 4500 with firegl and that should be enough - it is enough to rotate a transparent cube deformed to a sphere. But I was gonna switch to classic anyway.

After a few more hours of work with compiz it seems like the problem with the window contents not being refreshed is not related to the color filter plugin. I will open a new bug for that.

With multiple X screens you need to launch one instance per screen, eg

DISPLAY=:0.0 compiz --replace ccp &
DISPLAY=:0.1 compiz --replace ccp &

I did that (except I did not add the ccp parameter) but my problem is with the color filter not working correctly...

Right. I'll look into that one too. Please keep one thing per bug report :)

I've had the same color filter issue since I've upgraded to Natty with compiz 0.9.4 (even on the live cd). After I apply a colour filter, new windows aren't filtered. If I try to filter new windows individually, their menus aren't filtered. I end up having to disable and re-enable the color filter plugin in cssm.

I want to add that the color filters don't apply fully during the cube rotation and expo effects.

Indeed, newly opened windows are not filtered.
Really frustrating bug. One of the most helpful compiz plugins are now almost unusable.

Is there any script that I could use that tells compiz color filter to 'toggle window filtering'. I've searched extensively for some help with this but found nothing. I've recently been diagnosed with irlen syndrome (a sensitivity to particular colors of light) and have been relying on compiz color filter to do computer work. A pechenje says, color filter is almost unusable, but if you need it for health reasons you have to use it as it is better than nothing.

By the way:

I'm running Linux Mint 12 with Xfce 4.8 and compiz 0.9.6 . New windows are not filtered. Menus on all windows are not filtered.
