I can't get any sound out of Nted. The Nted documentation says it isn't their fault, that I have a problem with playing any Midi. I did the ubuntu-bug audio thing and I could hear the test tones, but I can't hear any midi.

I am a complete beginner in Linux/Ubuntu.

I realize that this is an ancient one; but here's the answer:

On the LE1600, the audio is not connected to the "normal" ports of the STAC9758.

Using alsamixer, set the following. There is no easy way to do this, as I don't have a .store file; you have to navigate through the alsamixer interface, and change each setting as listed:

set Master on
set Front on
set Master 31 (max volume)
set Front 31 (max volume)
set Capture 31 (max volume)
set Mic 31 (max volume)

set 'External Amplifier' off
set 'Mic Input Source' 'Mic1 Jack'
set 'Mic Select' 'Mic1'
set 'Rear Jack' 'Front Output'
set 'Mic1 Jack' 'Input/Disabled'
set 'LineIn Jack' 'Front Output'
set 'Line Input Source' 'Mute'
set 'Center/LFE Jack' 'Input/Disabled'
set 'Front Jack' 'Input/Disabled'
set 'Headphone Amp' 'Rear Jack'

This is confirmed to work with a Motion Computing Inc. LE1600; but it may work with other tablet-based Compal systems.

V/r,
Mike

Thank you Mike,
we have not given up and have about two dozen of these tablets nicely
running Lubuntu & Xubuntu (both are 12.x). I'll forward this to the team
and we will try some of those settings. Just last night, the team was
looking at alsamixer to make the 3 built-in microphones work. I am sure
this will fix the issues and I hope the next time we build up one of these
tablets (probably for 13.x) it will just work out of the box. Do you need
me to mark anything as done or working?

Hi Marcus,
this is no longer an issue. Those tablets have been retired. Not sure what
I can do to clear/close this report.
