The next development release of Software Center in Precise includes an implementation of the updated Unity launcher integration specification, as described at https:/ /wiki.ubuntu. com/SoftwareCen ter#launching . With this new implementation, the slide-in panel that prompts to add an application to the launcher is no longer used, and instead the features is enabled for all applications by checking the new menu item "View->New Applications in Launcher” (and this is enabled by default).
This new functionality works for both the applications details view (as before) and now also for applications being installed via list views (category, search, etc.).
