Bug Description

Binary package hint: unity

I'm not sure what is causing this. I was in Banshee, but launched nautilus (by clicking on the launcher item)

If you look at the screenshot then nautilus is "blue" but nautilus is displayed on the screen. However Chromium is still displayed in the titlebar. I'm not sure why this is; I didn't minimize Chromium.

I've had similar situations a few times (it's very noticeable now that the bfb turns blue).

You're witnessing such a behavior because the window of Nautilus has open but hasn't got focus since it was initialized. If you click the Nautilus window, the bfb would become white again and the titlebar would also show Nautilus.

I appreciate that. My question is perhaps more: why wasn't Nautilus given focus?

If that's the question, then this would be somewhat the opposite of bug #748840 .

Yes it's certainly related to that one.

I don't know what the correct behaviour should be, but I think something is going wrong if the window is displayed in the foreground, but is not actually selected.

summary: - bfb turns blue despite app being open
+ Application at front of screen but not 'selected' (causes bfb to turn
+ blue)

I have seen this issue many times, but have never found any appropriate steps to reproduce the issue. A similar situation can be created by just starting the GIMP.

this is probably a compiz focus stealing prevention issue.

A way I can currently reproduce:
 1. Open Banshee and set it playing something
 2. Close Banshee (with the red X, it should continue to play). It will also show as not open in the Launcher.
 3. Go to Chromium (presumably other applications would work here)
 4. Select some text in Chromium
 5. Click on Banshee's launcher

Results:
 a. bfb goes blue (or blue triangle)
 b. The screen displays the Chromium panel, but Banshee's window is on top. The window controls in the panel are for Chromium.
 c. Clicking the Chromium launcher does not nothing.
 d. Clicking the Banshee launcher puts the bfb back to normal and the panel now shows Banshee's controls/information

Expected result:
We go straight to Result "d" - Banshee's panel is shown along with its window.

Maybe this is the same problem of bug #717354?

This bug is extremely easy to reproduce.:

1. Open firefox.
2. Maximize it.
3. Minimize it.
4. Click on a URL in some other program.

Firefox will automatically un-minimize but the bfb will remain blue and firefox will refuse all keyboard input.

Alistair, I can reproduce the issue with your test case but I can
confirm the issue is there and affects things badly.

This issue has been invalid since the Oneiric release, which changed the “bfb” in a way that it cannot turn blue. I have no idea why this was marked “Triaged”.

Probably because it still happens even though the BFB no longer turns blue.
