Bug Description

indicator-sound 0.6.2-0ubuntu1, Ubuntu 11.04
indicator-sound 12.10.2+13.10.20131011-0ubuntu1, Ubuntu 13.10

1. Open the sound menu.
2. Hover over, or use arrow keys to navigate to, the Back/Rewind button.

What happens: The Play button is highlighted.
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/71790474/out-2.ogv

What should happen: The Back/Rewind button is highlighted.

The same problem happens with the Next/Forward button.

<https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Sound#playback-item>: "The Space key should visibly activate whichever button is highlighted. However, highlighting the Back or Forward button with a keyboard should not be possible; instead, the Left and Right keys should immediately activate Back and Forward respectively whenever any of the three are highlighted."

Conscious, could you provide a screencast of the problem? I'm not sure exactly where you're hovering. :-)

For whatever reason I never received a notification for Matthew's response, sorry...

I'm now attaching a screencast that hopefully makes the issue clearer. As you can see, there are two different highlights: one when the cursor is on the control's height (Play button becomes orange), and one when the cursor is over one of the three buttons (the specific button becomes more bright). The first type is where the problem is.

I've noticed that Precise added full background highlight to the volume slider. Maybe the same could be made for the playback buttons?

Sorry I took way too long to look at this. This is a straightforward bug, not a design question. When you mouse over the Previous/Rewind or Next/Forward button, the Play/Pause button highlights. That makes no sense; the button you actually moused over should highlight.

It turns out I made a mistake. I didn't realize that according to the spec, Space should activate Play/Pause *even if* Back/Forward was pointed at with a pointing device. That's why Play/Pause was being highlighted here.

Specification updated. <https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Sound?action=diff&rev2=105&rev1=104>
