Bug Description

Hi there,

I'm unable to upgrade to Maverick Meerkat 10.10 from Lucid Lynx 10.04 LTS because it said I have an unsupported package somewhere. It was doing the upgrade and turned off my software channels and then said there was some unsupported package.

Can you tell me what it is so I can remove it? I would very much like to move to 10.10.

Thank you for all of the great work you do on Ubuntu. Thank God there is life after Windoze.

Cheers,

Kurt

If the package xserver-xorg-video-nouveau is installed, in several cases the 10.04 to 10.10 upgrade fails with the error message

"Could not determine the upgrade
An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade:
E:Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages.
This can be caused by:
* Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu"

Several persons have reported that after removal of that package the upgrade was successful.

Try this workaround: Open a terminal and enter the command:

sudo apt-get remove xserver-xorg-video-nouveau

and try the upgrade again.

Hi Manfred,

Wow, this is great support. Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. I
NEVER got support like this with Windoze.

That fixed it. The update is running now.

Thank you,

Kurt

PS. What can we do to make Ubuntu more mainstream. It is awesome in so many
ways.
