Bug Description

To Complete Report & Logs, I'm redoing report:
[natty] usb storage device/mouse is not mounted automatically: Ubuntu, “usbmount” package, Bug #709069.
That report will be converted to question if all works well here.

No usb or memory card devices are automounted at boot, or in desktop 'hot plugged' (if thats the term to use?).
Tried: usbmouse, usbkeyboard, usbstick.

Indeed! Inspiron 1546. (from all accounts the 1545 works perfectly)
Have been searching on and off for 2 months to see if there was a simple fix. I've seen almost 2 forum posts about this, and the only 'solution' was to go back to Ubuntu 10.04 and not ever upgrade the Kernel past 2.6.34~ if you want 10.10+ you have to live without USB ports or webcam. It's been suggested that if you compile your own kernel that might do the trick, but don't know if anyone has actually done it.

I'm amazed that this isn't a more prevalent problem.

I don't have any out put to contribute, except that lsusb has no output.

Good to know I'm not alone though!

I'm fairly certain this is a duplicate of bug 647043 regarding the same issue with a Dell Studio 1536. There seems to be a workaround in comment #18 - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/647043/comments/18.
