Bug Description

During the boot load process, I see repeatedly "BUG : Bad Page map in process khelper" with pte: #'s & pmd : hex code following it. The system then hangs.
The system I am trying to install on a bare drive is 10.10, I tried the 32 bit and the AMD 64 bit versions, neither works.
It is the 32bit version I get the BUG echo with - the 64 bit version just hangs
The operating system runs fine from the cd, too bad I cant just image that to my hard drive.

thanks

Hi George,
OK, that shouldn't happen. We do need more information however to help.
Can you add details here of what machine exactly you are using (model, amount of memory etc). If you can get a screenshot of the bug messages (e.g. with a digital camera) you could also attach that.

If you can boot the same machine into 10.04 then please run

apport-collect 669076

which should add a load of information about your machine to this bug.

Wow, couldn't believe someone already replied to me. Thanks. First off, do
they keep a list of submissions via email addresses? I submitted the onset
of this with the msg "not sure its a bug" about a day ago. That was done
while running from the cd and it grabbed my system info with the
submittal.(doesn't seem to be a word)

I am trying to load ubuntu on this system so I can FLEE the windows
environment, not having much luck so I end up having to reinsert my windows
drive back into its slot to continue. I will open this email from the
running of ubuntu from the cd and see if I can get my system info again.

Thanks

I ran apport-collect 669076 while booted into the cd, I mounted the hard
drive that the install is on in hopes of getting someone with remote access
to maybe look at the install and see if there is something obvious that
"non-users" know nothing about.

Thanks

This was changed from 'Incomplete' to 'New' since all the requested information has now been supplied. There are 2 photos attached that show the start of the list of bugs (I think it is the same bug repeating) and another that shows the end of the list just before the screen goes into total darkness. Please forgive the emails that include the one being replied to. I am new to this and will try to adhere to some site formats. Thanks

No, I just gave up trying to install the system. I do not have the knowledge
to figure out what is wrong with the generic install options to be of any
help. The system runs fine from the cd; but will not boot into the system
after what appears to be a good install. I'm not sure if the pictures of
most of the screens during the failed boot are still out there with the
posting or not. I have been wanting to leave the MS arena for some time; but
can't get linux installed where I can use it.

Thanks

I do not see a classification of "solved" or I would have changed it to that. I still consider what I went through, a bug in the program, and I will try to explain why. Final determination: "The install package does not correctly setup the hard drive, even when making the selection to use the entire drive." I cannot begin to tell you how many attempts at installing I went through; but tracing the history of this bug report will give an indication of how long it has taken me. If I had recorded yesterdays event I could at least accurately describe in the documentation to new users, which I am one, how to manually go through the steps of 'prepping' the hard drive. The clue was in the boot process when it continually displayed "Please append a correct 'root=' option and made comment to there not being a legit file system. So yesterday, the big eve, I had Ubuntu check my drive for errors, it took the entire day. I then formatted the drive and chose a '/' as the mount point. I have no idea if that is the correct choice, there is no help provided in that area as to what to chose and the difference in the choices. Long story short, it is installed and I am recording these comments from within Ubuntu. So it was the hard drive setup that caused all my problems.
