Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

The title of some windows sometimes is not updated instantly. They must be resized/moved in order to see the new title appearing in the title bar. Since I'm currently using compiz-decorator, I'm assuming that this problem might be related to compiz.

Also some glitches show up as well, like shadowed areas in the title bar, or colorless close/minimize/restore buttons. Everything settle to normal when the title bar is activated by means of a click on it, by hovering over the buttons with the cursor, or by moving/resizing the window.

Confirming on Maverick with Intel '915GM/GMS/910GM'. Easy to see in windows with tabs. Example of a browser window: (Big video warning!): http://people.ubuntu.com/~topyli/lazy-titlebar.ogv

I can confirm I'm also experiencing this problem.

Bug #662565 is a duplicate, I had attached a screenshot there:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/662565/+attachment/1748110/+files/Screenshot.png

Have reproduced this problem in numerous applications, including Firefox, gnome-terminal, and nautilus.

ppa:xorg-edgers seems to fix this for me. If anyone else wants to try:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

So newer drivers should fix this problem.

Thanks, max!

Following up on your comment, I tried "ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates", too (full command-line below) -- and for me that also did the trick. This PPA is a little less bleeding-edge than "xorg-edgers" (obviously), so some might prefer it.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

Quick follow-up to comment #7 --

If you already put the "xorg-edgers" PPA in effect on your system, you should probably do a "ppa-purge" first, before installing anything else xorg-related.

Do "sudo apt-get install ppa-purge", and then "ppa-purge -h", and take it from there.

Ok, so it seems pretty clear at this point this was a driver bug with the intel driver and i915 hardware but as natty should already have what you're getting from the x-updates PPA I'm going to mark this as fixed. Thanks to Max and Omer for willing to get a little more bleeding edge to confirm the fix.

is this really 'fix released'?

I'm having the same issue, with the ATI binary driver...
